Dam, your good? Hey, hows Candy?

From Hillbilly Runner on Wed, Jan 21, 2015 at 15:17:48 from 208.87.234.180

Lloyd Thanks for asking Candy's better. She struggles with sinus issues and this years weather so far has been a lot worst for her. She's tougher than I am and doesn't complain. I'm a sissy when I don't feel good.

I'm really feeling Good right now and feel like I'm ready to start training for a marathon. My plan is to start training as if I was going to run a marathon and if the stars line up (i.e. weather, time, location and money) and one of the marathons I've got my eye on works out I'll give it a try and see if I can get me a BQ for 2016. If not I hit a local half and hit the local 5K's this year.

From I Just Run on Thu, Jan 22, 2015 at 07:23:39 from 67.79.11.242

You've been running some good solid mid 7's lately. Are you getting serious about running?

From Hillbilly Runner on Fri, Jan 23, 2015 at 07:04:35 from 208.87.234.180

IJR just ramping up the training a little to see where my fitness is and maybe run a spring marathon if things work out. If not I'll be ready for some local half's and 5K's.

From I Just Run on Fri, Jan 23, 2015 at 09:18:51 from 67.79.11.242

I'm doing the same but running out of time since any marathon past February is iffy because of the unpredictable weather.

That'd be the Illinois Marathon April 25. I had a few marathons on my radar but this one won out. Candy's fine except for a small case of cabin fever. It's hard to keep her inside when it snows, she thinks she needs to get her Jeep out and play in it.

From Hillbilly Runner on Mon, Apr 06, 2015 at 15:02:09 from 173.191.121.34

Rhett, it's April 25 like Lloyd said. It's supposed to be a really flat course with just some rolling hills with the exception of one hill about mile 20 something. It's not much from the way they talk. It's only about a three and half hour drive from where I live which will make it nice. Now if I can just get the weather to cooperate I'll be alright.

The 7:56 is right on target. That'd give me a 3:28 and a BQ by 2 minutes. I wanted this to be a confidence builder but I'm a little worried about the hamstring and also about my conditioning. I would feel a lot better if my HR would have been down to about the 140 range. From the look of the extended forecast todays temps were right where they'll be in Champaign marathon day.

How'd the hammy feel on the recovery run. Getting that healthy has to be priority #1. You don't want to end up like me in my last race with a DNF. All your training has been great. Trust it. You're ready for the BQ.

What Rhett said....

From Hillbilly Runner on Mon, Apr 13, 2015 at 17:10:37 from 208.87.234.180

I've been dealing with a hampy issue for the past couple years off and on. It's just became a problem with the increased mileage and distance. It still hurts but the thing that bothers me is that I've started to favor it enough that it's affecting my knee. I can deal with the hamstring as long as it doesn't bother the knee. I gave it the day off and I'll see what it feels like tomorrow. Thanks for asking!!!

Total Distance

Morning workout and 8 mile run at the gym. Tried to concentrate on proper form and not so much on pace. The hamstring pain was a little less and something I can deal with as long as it doesn't put added strain on the knee which was close to 100% today. I did drop the pace down to MP the last couple miles just to see how everything would react. Not bad but I still think I need to take it really easy and let everything calm back down. We'll see how thing go?

I really feel like I put the miles and time in like I was supposed to. Maybe not the best training cycle I've had but on par for a BQ. It'll all play out one way or the other. Thanks for caring.

From Tom Slick on Wed, Apr 15, 2015 at 14:47:55 from 168.179.158.193

Hey you, time to do any speed testing is past you. Your 11 days out of your race day. Well into your taper. Just finish your taper the way it's supposed to be done and the marathon will take care of itself. Don't worry about anything else, take a chill pill lose all the dings and dangs that you've collected and get your mental game on board 100%!!! I wish my training cycle getting to Boston had been as good as yours for Illinois!

From Rhett on Fri, Apr 17, 2015 at 11:31:27 from 24.121.0.8

Sounds like you are doing the smart thing. Any running now is just to keep things fresh. There is not fitness to be gained at this point. Get healthy and that BQ will be there for you.

From Hillbilly Runner on Wed, Apr 22, 2015 at 09:44:09 from 208.87.234.180

Rhett, thanks for asking but as bad as I hate to I think I'm throwing in the towel and pulling the plug on running Saturday. The good news is I'm seeing some signs of the leg coming around. I don't think I'll be sidelined for very long. I'm able to get some cardio on the bike so I'll be able to keep some level of fitness while I'm rehabbing. I know you know how it feels "It's a Bummer". When I finally stop feeling sorry for myself I could put things in perspective and realize there's a whole lot of worst things out there than not being able to run a marathon.

After a mile and a half and it not getting any better I turned around went back to the house and switched to my Hybird and everthing felt fine. I don't think it was the seat but not sure what it was I guess it's got something to do with the geometry or something. I was just glad to get in a good pain free workout.

Rhett said you might be running The Illinois Marathon this sat in Champaign, I'm too. Bib number 1085 bold black guy. I hope to meet someone from the blog in person in one off these races.

From Tom Slick on Fri, Apr 24, 2015 at 10:07:21 from 168.179.158.193

At this stage of the game why is it your still lifting weights and walking and running and biking....take a taper break man, get off your feet and let the injuries heal.....

From Hillbilly Runner on Fri, Apr 24, 2015 at 11:09:11 from 208.87.234.180

Bro. it's called rehab...I've thrown in the towel on the marathon. As much as I hated it things just weren't healing fast enough. Sure I might be able to make a effort to run but I felt like the chances I'd be taking could and probably would make things worst in the long run and it wasn't worth it. I feel like I'll be back to running by sometime next week probably won't be doing any speed work but a least I'll be running.

From Rhett on Fri, Apr 24, 2015 at 11:52:44 from 24.121.0.8

Sorry to hear that it isn't getting any better HBR. I can empathize as I had to take a DNF of my last marathon. I am glad I pulled the plug when I did though and am already back to full running. Had I tried to finish that race, I'd probably still be injured. Sometimes you just gotta do the smart thing. Good luck with the rehab.

From Hillbilly Runner on Fri, Apr 24, 2015 at 18:53:15 from 208.87.234.180

Yasir It would have been Great to have met you in Champaign this weekend but I got sidelined due to a injury and won't be running Saturday. Wow Slick that sounds like Fun I've stayed at that B & B before and it's superb!!!! Thanks I'll really consider that. I'm not making the progress on this injury that I need to be so it might include a trip to the Doctor. I'm pretty sure it's a piriformis issue and from everything I've read it just takes time, stretching, massaging and some rehab. Have you ever had any dealings with this type of injury? I'm able to ride so I'm keeping some degree of fitness which is nice but it flares up everytime I try and run. Overall I'm can tell it's getting better just not able to run yet.

Another hard road ride after work 16 miles @17.5 mph avg. this hurt I don't know if it was the heat or the wind but I felt it in my back. I feel like I'm staying in  some kind of shape by hitting the bike but it's still not like running.

Good on ya Bro Ronnie! Keep moving or they kick dirt in your face! Your in control of your running destiny, bring it back slow and low for the long haul!

I bike a lot and enjoy it, but I agree...it is not the same as running.

Cycling is a great way to stay in shape but understand wanting to get back to running. Keep up the good work.

Hi HB,

Got me a new bike on Saturday and rode it the first time this morning. I had to promise my wife I would tone it down a few notches and not have another crash!

Good to see you cycling...we can recover and come back together. :-)

From Tom Slick on Wed, Jul 01, 2015 at 09:12:14 from 168.179.158.193

No, No, No, more crashes!

From Hillbilly Runner on Thu, Jul 02, 2015 at 09:09:48 from 173.191.121.34

IJR we aren't getting any younger and these injuries take longer to get over so toning it down a little might be a good idea. I haven't had any crashes lately but there's been a lot on the trails this year.

Slick I'm about ready to start back to running. I think I've got a few things worked out. It was all I could do not to give it a try yesterday but things need a few more days.

I wanted to wait to post these to see how things felt the next day. My legs feel a little sore but thats from not be use to running. As far as the hamstring it feels about the same as yesterday so that's good news. During the run there wasn't any pain just a dule ache in the butt area which I was hoping would go away, it didn't, but it didn't get any worse either. So moving forward I'm going to run 3 days and try and add a little each week. I'm excited to be running again!!!!

Yo Ronnie, nice ride down the road to recovery! You continue to give me inspiration to continue to continue to get out and get it done.....63 days till the Big Cottonwood Marathon, hope I can find enough speed to get my tire old man body into the 2016 Boston Marathon. Hope to see you there too!!!!

From Hillbilly Runner on Sat, Jul 11, 2015 at 16:57:51 from 173.191.121.34

Slick I'll be lucky to be able to run a decent 5k in 63 days yet alone a marathon. I'd love to run Boston next year but in reality that ain't happening. Good luck to you in your training.

I'm on the slow road to recovery but a least I can say I making some progress down that road. I ran 4 miles today (kind of). I walked the first .25 to get warmed up then ran 2.5. I had to stop and rub down a few tight muscles, walk another .25 to make sure everything was OK then finished out the 4 miles running. No garmin at this point in recovery just trying to get everything use to running again and get a few miles in.

Welcome home. Hey dod Ms. C get to travel with you to Phx? How ya feelin', the recovery still coming along well?

From Hillbilly Runner on Wed, Aug 19, 2015 at 21:50:05 from 173.191.121.34

Nope Candy didn't get to come. I tried to talk her into flying out Thursday night and then we'd do some sightseeing and fly back Sunday but I couldn't convince her too. The recovery is progressing very slowly but it is coming along. It's a bore but I do a lot better on the TM so for now that'll be where the majority of my mile come from.

Looks like you have another good solid week going. Did you hit the trails with your wife this weekend?

From Hillbilly Runner on Mon, Dec 07, 2015 at 06:13:16 from 76.122.210.58

I've bumped my MPW avg up to 30 and the wheels are staying on so that's good news.

No, we wanted to hit the trail for some hiking but things were still a little wet so we stuck to the sidewalks downtown. That gave us a chance to take in some of the lights and Christmas decorations that people had up.

The leg keeps getting better every week. I'm still not going to do any speed work or real training but I'm eyeing the first of the year to get things cranked up if  everything keeps improving. Maybe even make some plans for a late winter early spring marathon.

Good to hear you are getting better.

From Hillbilly Runner on Mon, Dec 07, 2015 at 13:17:28 from 76.122.210.58

Thanks Jim it's been a long and slow rehab but steady. At least I've been able to do some running through out the process except for 2-3 month period last spring. I've kept some level of fitness. Another good thing is I've learn to enjoy running again and not just be doing it because it's what runners do.

Tough 5 miles this morning I think a combination of staying up way to late plus way to much to eat might have had something to do with it????

I'm thinking I nice soft snow fall would be nicer to run in than cold windy rain. That run will make you tough though.
